Blocked drains in Port Macquarie are never a fun thing to deal with and they can often lead to further issues that can be costly and inconvenient.

That’s why you should know how to prevent those blockages so your plumbing system is always clear and functional. Having a reputable and trustworthy plumber on your side can also help.

That’s where All Ways Drain comes in. Let us help you take great care of your plumbing so it never gets clogged. Here’s how to prevent blocked drains.

Put Food in the Bin, Not the Drain

Even with a garbage disposal, you shouldn’t put food down the drain. It can become lodged in the neck of the drain and keep water from flowing through like it should. Instead, through all food debris and coffee grounds into the trash can.

You should also never pour grease down your kitchen drains as it can collect and hold onto other food, causing a blockage. Pour used grease into a can and dispose of it in an outdoor rubbish bin.

When you do use your garbage disposal, be sure to run cold water while you do, which does a better job of grinding and clearing the food out of the drain.

Clean Sink Stoppers Often

Using sink stoppers in sinks and drains in both the kitchen and bathroom can help keep stuff from getting into the pipes and creating a blockage. But you’ve got to clean those sink stoppers often to prevent them from overflowing.

In the kitchen, dump food scraps into the rubbish bin and rinse the stopper well. In the bathroom, remove all hair from the stopper and dispose of it in a rubbish bin before replacing it.

Use Caution When You Flush

Flushing things down the toilet that don’t belong there can lead to a clogged drain attached to the septic system. That’s why you should never flush paper towels, wet wipes, sanitary products, or other large bulky items down the toilet. It’s designed for toilet paper only so be sure that’s all you flush down.

Pour Hot Water Down the Drain

We suggest pouring hot water down your drains at least once a week. This helps dissolve grease, break up hair and food debris, and clear out soap scum, all of which can lead to a blocked drain if allowed to build up.
